The epoc system connects the patient, actionable test results, the care team, and the therapy they deliver.

epoc NXS Hospital Hotspot

What could happen when critical testing results are securely delivered patient-side in less than 1 minute with a system that securely connects the entire care team? Patient diagnosis and treatment may happen faster. The hospital may make better use of resources. Patient safety may be enhanced with a simplified testing process and integrated positive patient ID. The streamlined testing workflow could help reduce costs. Outcomes could improve, and a complete, consistent clinical picture would be accessible across the care continuum.

Respiratory Care/ICU

The Respiratory Care team works in a fast-paced, complex critical care environment, managing compromised patients with rapidly changing status.

Laboratory-quality fast results in this setting may enable:

  • Improved monitoring of patient oxygenation and physiological perfusion leading to enhanced ventilator management
  • Fast response to real-time physiological changes
  • Accurate monitoring and treatment of electrolyte abnormalities
  • More efficient and cost-effective utilization of healthcare resources

Relevant test: ABGs, Electrolytes, Lactate

NICU/PICU
The epoc System minimizes blood draw volume to mitigate risk of exacerbating anemia. Fast, accurate patient-side blood analysis in the NICU/PICU enables caregivers to assess and respond immediately to critical parameters such as fluid loss, ventilation, metabolism, and effects from anticoagulant usage. This ultimately may result in:
  • Fewer blood draws
  • Reduced transfusions
  • Reduced risk of nosocomial infections
  • Enhanced ventilator management
  • Less than a minute to results to ensure accelerated intervention

Relevant tests: ABGs, Electrolytes, Glucose

Radiology sign

The epoc system can provide important information about patients who may be at risk for side effects associated with iodine-based contrast media used for many radiologic diagnostic procedures. Contrast media is nephrotoxic to some patients. Risk factors include volume depletion, hypotension, renal dysfunction, diabetes mellitus, multiple myeloma, et al.

Laboratory-quality fast creatinine results in the radiology department may lead to:

  • Improved patient disposition decisions and increased throughput
  • Reduced delays in imaging procedures if renal dysfunction is suspected
  • Choice of alternative, less nephrotoxic contrast agent or alternative imaging method
  • Improved time to intervention and treatment

Relevant test: Creatinine, eGFR, BUN, BUN/Creatinine Ratio

CVOR/OR

In the OR, life-altering decisions are often made throughout surgery. Many of those decisions depend on the clinician’s ability to rapidly monitor, assess, and manage the patient’s status. The epoc system provides laboratory-accurate testing quickly and accurately during surgery. This allows surgeons, anesthesiologists, perfusionists, and nurses to more readily direct their attention to the patient’s care.

Laboratory-quality fast results in the OR may enable:

  • Improved monitoring of changes in oxygenation and physiological perfusion
  • Fast response to real-time physiological changes
  • Accurate monitoring and treatment of electrolyte abnormalities

Relevant test: ABGs, Hct, cHgb, Electrolytes, Lactate

Transport

Overcrowding and delays in the emergency department (ED) can put patient care in jeopardy and reduce patient satisfaction. The epoc system provides ED staff with laboratory accurate test results. With fast, reliable information at hand, providers can more quickly diagnose and care for patients. Time to treat could be greatly reduced, and patient outcomes could improve dramatically.

When test results are available immediately, the anxiety of patients and their families can be alleviated and patient satisfaction increased.

Laboratory-quality fast results in the ED may lead to:

  • Decreased time to treatment or diagnosis
  • Improved patient disposition decisions and increased throughput
  • Immediate response to patients presenting with emergent conditions
  • More efficient and cost-effective utilization of healthcare resources

Relevant test: ABGs, BMP, Lactate, Hct

Central Laboratory

The epoc system can empower laboratories to improve their responsiveness to critical patient testing requirements.

By providing results in less than 1 minute the laboratory is positioned to:

  • Reduce testing turnaround times
  • Offer improved clinician/patient satisfaction
  • Implement centralized control of decentralized testing
  • Leverage point-of-care testing to enhance laboratory staff efficiency and resources
  • Maintain laboratory-quality testing standards

Relevant test: ABGs, BMP, Lactate, Hct

POC Ecosystem

The epoc system provides bidirectional communication with the data manager, allowing caregivers the ability for device, operator and inventory management, along with quality control. This provides the ability to proactively manage data across the hospital, giving you centralized control over decentralized testing.

NXS Host

The epoc NXS host is a market first in handheld blood gas diagnostics to leverage the power of Android, with enhanced processing power and performance, 2GB of memory and long battery life. The slim, lightweight design incorporates a vibrant, HD resolution touchscreen that can be used with gloved fingers and features a large onscreen keyboard.

The intuitive user interface is designed to support novices and experts and delivers a streamlined prompt-based test workflow. The software & Host provide audio and onscreen visual prompts when action is required such as the insertion of a test card (or sample injection) to guide users during the test process.

Orange Card

The epoc Blood Analysis System provides accurate results for a full panel of critical tests, including blood gas, a basic metabolic panel with hematocrit and lactate, in less than 1 minute after sample introduction at the patient’s side.

  • Test Cards are single-use and automatically calibrate prior to sample introduction.
  • The system supports arterial, venous, or capillary whole-blood samples.
  • Test Cards are bar-coded with lot number and expiration dates for built-in, automated quality assurance. The system prevents use of expired test cards.
  • Test Cards can be stored at room temperature.
  • Only 92 μL of sample is required.

Secure Wireless Connection

The epoc system leverages a wireless connection and seamless integration to data management, to allow actionable test results from each department to be available and connecting the patient, actionable test results, the care team and the therapy delivered.

This is all accomplished by securing patient data. This data is encrypted to protect patient data against cyber attacks. The connection with data management provides encrypted end-to-end data transmission so the caregivers and the hospital can be confident that patient data won’t be compromised.
