Insights Series – Issue 2: Culture of diversity, respect, and inclusionA white paper on how to "Increase workforce productivity" at Main Line Health

02/26/2019
Jack Lynch, President and CEO Main Line Health, explains the organization's journey in creating a culture of diversity, respect, and inclusion.

Main Line Health and its President and CEO Jack Lynch have proactively embraced diversity by creating a culture of respect and inclusion. “We have reached sustainable impact in our community as well as in our financials,” reports Lynch. Within three years, Main Line Health reduced serious preventable harm by 83%, demonstrating that employees can solve real health system problems if they work together.

This white paper is designed to help other healthcare leaders envision and implement their own approaches to improving team-based care and creating positive workplaces.

  • The healthcare team that treats patients every day represents the people it serves and the communities where they live.
  • An engaged, team-based care approach is a win-win for all: Diverse, productive, and interdisciplinary teams are more likely to think differently while identifying disparities in a patient's treatment, and to come up with innovative methods.
  • The leadership team must serve as a role model for members of the workforce and encourage them to speak up.
  • Creating a culture of diversity, respect, and inclusion is a constant journey and forces healthcare systems to work continuously on quality, safety, and equity.
